Spring is Coming! 3/4/15
Betty arrives at the salon. She opens the hairstyle book and opens up the 2015 calender. She turns it to February. Just then, a customer came in. It was Betty Boop! "Hello, Betty dear! Could you give me the French bun hairstyle, please?" she asked. She sat down in the chair, and looked at the calender. "Betty, not to be rude, but your calender is on February." Betty said, "Yes it is, why would it be rude?" "Well, it's March my dear sister." Betty looked at the calender with squinted eyes. "Oh!" she exclaimed. She rushed to the calender and flipped the page over. "March has a pretty picture, doesn't it Betty Boop?" she pointed at a picture of a duck with an umbrella walking down the street. Just then, she saw that scene right outside the window. "My goodness! I must get my Easter decor out! Oh, and my happy spring sign! Oh, I must get the monthly special hairstyle out! Oh there's just so much to do!" Betty fretted about, forgetting all about her customer. "Betty, are you going to finish my French bun?" said Betty Boop.
Pray for Spring to Come!3/5/15
When Ellie was walking to school, some girls walked up to her. They were rich girls who thought they were better than everybody else. Ellie said very politely, "Will you please let me pass?" One of the rich girls said, "Not until you pay me a dollar." Ellie tried to walk around them, but they wouldn't let her pass. She finally just gave up and gave them her dollar. During recess, the rich girls walked up to her. "You know," one of them started. "my mother and father give me anything I want. They don't blame me if I lie to them, and they give me candy when I pout. They both have great jobs, and they paid off the rent for the house in just one week! You should see my wardrobe. I have a dollhouse that was worth one-hundred million dollars! They let me go anywhere I want, and one time, I had a poodle dog, and I spent a thousand dollars just on clothes for her! It's so good to be me. If I want something that someone else claimed theirs, my parents will get that exact one for me!" Ellie walked away to where Emma was, and said, "She keeps bragging on herself. It annoys me a lot. Can you tell her to stop bragging?" Emma was nine years old, and Ellie was seven. Those rich girls were all eight years old. Emma walked up to them sternly and said, "Could you stop bragging? You're hurting other kids feelings. Some things that they had, you stole. You're not better than anybody else. We're all just feathers and bones. So could you stop bragging?" The rich girls made sneers. They finally said, "When spring comes, we'll stop." Emma is praying for spring to come.
A Clean Dog
The sheriff, Golders, hates to have bathes. Her real name is Shelby, but I like the sound of her sheriff name. Golders was lying on the floor, chewing a bone, when all of a sudden, someone came in. She jumped up and hid the bone in the drawer. She sat up straight at the desk and said, "Can I help you with something, sir?" She looked up at Big Papa, standing in the door. I walked up to her with serious eyes, and said, "Time for a B-A-T-H!" Golders fell to a droopy state, and walked around her desk. "Where's she going?" said Big Papa. I grabbed her at the collar and pulled her into the bathroom. Big Papa didn't want to wash her uniform at that very moment (which was just a collar) so he took it off. She looked as skinny as a sewer rat when she was all washed off, but afterwards, when Big Papa dried her, she was as poofy as a lamb! She still did not smell good though. A day later, Big Papa washed her uniform. I decorated it up again, and she liked it. She sits back in her office chair and looks like she means business.
Sad and Happy News 3/10/15
A few weeks ago, Fifi, or Pussnboots passed away. He went the way of most cats... just went on the road. I, the Queen of Chicken Town was most horrified at the news. Sally had to buy more tissues that dreadful day. She had used all of them up. The rooster who makes the headstones still hasn't painted Fifi's. He left a deep hole in soul of Chicken Town. Last weekend, we got two new cats. One was a black and brown tiger named Fergus, or for short, Gus. The other is a black cat named Zoro. Gus and Zoro play together, sleep together, and eat together. Believe it or not, they hid behind the fridge! Zoro is quite the kitty. He wasn't behind the fridge, he was under the fridge! Now their fridge play time is over. They are very shy kitties. When we introduced Gus to the house, he hid in a corner. When we got Zoro into the car, he sat underneath the driver's seat and cried. They are getting used to us, but they still are shy.
Emma's Scoops 3/12/15
Today, Emma's third cousin is having a birthday. He sent her something that he had for a long time, but never used. It was a newspaper printer. Emma looked at it with shining eyes. She began to write. She did not write much, because after the first nine lines, it was high time for her to be getting to school. She kept thinking about the printer, and she began to wonder, could she gather up all of the scoops in town and turn them into a newspaper? It's worth a shot! Sometime, she'll make a blog about her scoops. Now she's a flyin' ball of feathers. She's zooming all around town, and when she runs, she really RUNS! She writes down all of the facts that she possibly can, and now, she's ready to get started! Visit www.emmasscoops.blogspot.com
Springtime Fancy
Today the citizens are expecting the warmest day in 2015. We are expecting a high temperature of 71°! The forth graders are planning on playing basketball at recess today. Emma is wearing all pink and white today. The kindergartners are going to learn how to grow seeds. There's just one thing wrong with this day. School. Emma had dinner early, and her family rented a movie. She couldn't watch the whole thing because it was about two hours long. Ellen is making a huge popsicle-stick castle, but she can't finish it today. Everybody in school has something that they want to do but can't do it because of school. It is a great day. Everybody wants to skip school. They will still spend a lot of time outside.
Elsie's Progress 3/20/15
Elizabeth Williams is the main focus in Chicken Town. Believe it or not, she is still on the second page of her picture book, Elsie's Easter. Elsie is going to ABCDE CHICK. They have started an excess school called Bunny School. Little bunnies go to school here. Elsie is starting with Kindergarten. Bruce, Sally Henny Penny's husband, is doing the teaching. Everybody is excited about her book. Elizabeth is doing awesome work on every page. She tried one kind of drawing, but she wanted to draw a "cuter" Elsie. She probably put a picture on her Facebook page, Elsie Rabbit & Friends. I am making other books and trying to cheer her on. Elsie likes to watch Elizabeth draw sometimes. She tried to make up excuses that she couldn't go to school, but her mother already called the teacher. So, today Elsie will be studying arithmetic, spelling, letters and sounds, language, and phonics. She will learn a little bit about good health, but mostly those basic things.
Crocuses, Daffodils, and Tulips
Mary Ann planted many pretty flowers last fall. She thought that they would sprout right away. One day, while she was eating a sweet-grass sandwich, she went out to see it. She was quite young then, and she hadn't gone to school. It was the day before Christmas Eve, and she thought that Santa Chicken would make them sprout out of the snow. The next evening, during Christmas Eve, when families got together and had a good time, she slipped through the crowd. It was time to open presents, and she thought that her present was outside. Nope. The flowers hadn't sprouted. She sat by the little patch and cried. Then she got up. She searched through her pea-sized brain to find if there was a time that they would sprout. Of course! If they're not here, then they're sure to be up on Christmas morning! Instead of opening her presents underneath the tree, she went to bed. She supposed that if she went to bed early, then Santa Chicken would come sooner. Everybody decided to leave after they opened their presents. A Christmas party isn't very fun without Mary Ann. It was a longer night than usual for her. She couldn't sleep all night. She woke up at six o'clock in the morning. She ran downstairs and grabbed her little glow-stick. You know that it is dark in December. No blooms. She cried there for about an hour in the little patch. Today, she didn't even pass her patch. "Hey," said Ellen. "you've got flowers blooming in your patch!" Mary Ann was so happy to see the tiny blooms. She's at school now. She can't focus on one subject. A miracle happened in her backyard.
It's Spring! Nope. 3/27/15
Beautiful spring days are here again! No snow, sixty degree weather, the perfect time for flowers to bloom! I glance at the thermometer. My eyes nearly pop out. Thirty-four degrees. Am I sure it's not in Celsius? Nope. It can't be spring. Next time I go to play outside, it's snowing! No wonder people get sick in the spring. Their blood temperatures keep going up and down, up and down, up up up, down. The little pullets and cockerels are so confused. "Why is it snowing still? I thought it was spring! Will the sun ever shine again? Is it going to snow all year?" Every body's upset about the weather.
The Right Decision
Sylvia Finch was hurrying home, when she came across a wallet. She opened it, and looked into the money pouch. Inside was a fifty, two twenties, one five, and five ones. The total was $100! Sylvia ran home and climbed up her tree house. She looked at the boat card. It read the following.
Henry McCormick
6273 Harmony Dr
Duckville, OH 45510
She looked all over the wallet for a phone number. Finally she decided to look up his phone number on her i-phone. She found it and reached underneath her desk for a pencil and piece of paper.
She wrote on the paper the following.
Henry McCormick
390-673-7898
She called this number and said, "Hello Mrs. McCormick, may I speak with Mr. McCormick? I'll wait." Her mother didn't know that she was calling this McCormick fellow. She was getting groceries and her father was fixing the car. Mr. McCormick got to the phone and said, "Who is this?" Sylvia gulped and said, "This is Sylvia Finch. Am I speaking with Henry P. McCormick?" "Yes this is he. Can I help you in someway, Miss Finch?" "Well, you see, I was walking home from school..." "School!? I thought that I was speaking with someone much older. Well, never mind. Keep going." "I came across a wallet with a bass carved on it. It is made of cowhide, and it contains one hundred dollars, a debit card, a giftcard, a boat card, and two business cards." "And what makes you think that it is mine?" "It has your name in it." "Well, well! This is a surprise indeed. Please bring it over." They said goodbye and Sylvia asked her parents if they would allow her to go to the McCormick home. They took her and after they talked with Mr. and Mrs. McCormick, they gave Sylvia the hundred dollars, the credit card (which had expired), and all of the contents in it. But she didn't keep the boat card!
